THIS MIGHT HAVE BEEN MY OWN GRANDPA´S OLD WOODEN CAMERA
Early
1900's. Probably a Meritoire camera from James Lancaster & son Birmingham
England. Glass plate format 4.75”x6.5”. Primitive field camera in mahogany and
brass. A lens cap served as shutter. The negative material had a low
sensitivity. Exposure time was a couple of seconds! It took a lot of skill, knowledge and work to
take a picture in those days.
Thousands
of photos from this kind of cameras have survived over 100 years. How many of yours will do that?
